An Overview of Sahara Nights (by Yggdrasil Gaming)

We’ve seen enough variations on the Aladdin theme by now to realize that originality isn’t always a priority for video game creators. It’s hardly surprising, though; there’s a reason why classics have endured for so long. In other words, why mess with perfection? It’s hardly surprising that Yggdrasil Gaming’s excursion into the fantastical realm of flying carpets, sorcery, and supernatural beings stays mostly inside the confines established by the rules. While the mathematical design may use some work, what you get instead is a visual beauty and an exciting experience.

Crack That Open! This is the first game of its kind from Yggdrasil Gaming, and it features an Arabian theme. It includes 5 reels, 3 rows, and 20 paylines. Magical lamps in the regular game grow into mystical genie wilds, and in the free spins round, up to three completely stacked sticky wild reels can transform gild to gold, making this a medium-variance slot with some enchanted features. Transport yourself to the Sahara Desert and spin the reels from 0.20 to €/$100 per spin using any mobile device (iOS or Android).

Despite the fact that we stress this point again in our Yggdrasil Gaming reviews, it bears repeating. Sahara Nights is only one example of the stunning visuals created by these guys. In fact, it’s so graphically beautiful and evocative that we ended up spending significantly more time evaluating a game than normal. It’s gorgeous in its depth and color, and the symphonic string music is a great fit for the game. Against a backdrop of the palace of the sultan and the starry sky of Arabia, the reels feature four jewels with lesser values and four image symbols—goblets, daggers, Aladdin, and a princess—with higher payouts. Unlike the other symbols, which require three of a kind to generate a win, you only need two of the sultan to form a win with a payout of 175 times your bet for a five-of-a-kind combination. As you’ll soon see, the genie lamp serves as the game’s wild symbol, replacing standard game icons as necessary.

Features of Sahara Nights (by Yggdrasil Gaming)

Sahara Nights is not Yggdrasil’s most feature-rich slot, but the features that are present are fun enough. First out is the Genie Wild which only appears on the three middle reels. The genie wild acts as a normal wild until it contributes to a winning combination, at which point it becomes a completely stacked wild.

When 3, 4, or 5 storybook scatters appear anywhere on the reels, the Free Spins bonus game is activated, awarding 8, 12, or 16 free spins, as well as a 1000x prize for landing all 5 storybook scatters. The Genie Wild feature is also active during the Free Spins bonus game. When a Genie Wild appears in the bonus round, it no longer only grows in size like it does in the main game, but instead remains in place for the duration of the feature. Two more free spins will be added to your total if you get all three of them. You may also retrigger the bonus with 2 additional spins by landing 2 storybook scatters anywhere in view.

Yggdrasil Gaming’s Sahara Nights: The Final Say

Sahara Nights is a great choice if you want to be transported to a fantastical world while still enjoying a game with stunning visuals, a fantastic music, and manageable levels of volatility. The potential is dull and uninteresting, so serious gamers looking for large hits and rapid action should search elsewhere.

Because ordinary symbols never appear piled, and because sticky wilds can only appear on the middle three reels, the game isn’t as effective as it might be. With a medium degree of randomness, the low potential is not shocking, but it is far lower than we would want. As was previously noted, getting 5 storybook scatters will result in the single highest payoff, which cannot be obtained with the assistance of the basic symbols or even the sticky wild reels (which can only pay roughly 250x every play).

There’s no denying that Sahara Nights is a stunning video game. It’s also a lot of fun to play, however its limited potential may put off some players. Now, all you can do is pray that your session isn’t as dry as the Sahara.
